80 Day Obsession Review Week 4: Phase 1 Results Are In!

By now, you’re probably chomping at the bit to get your hands on 80 Day Obsession. Trust me, I know that your annoyance level is likely at an all time high seeing the Test Group participants posting their videos and pictures. I know, because I have been annoyed too!

But here’s the thing. We have to go first. We have to work hard now. Why? So that you get inspired to take 2018 by storm. So that you are mentally prepared to tackle this program—start to finish. And not half-ass. We go first, then we go together. That’s the magic formula.

And quite frankly, the January release will coincide with the many New Year’s Resolutions that are being pondered right now. Yes, THIS will be your program. Not the gym membership or anything else. It will be 80 Day Obsession. And about 90 days into 2018, you will be in the best shape of your life. How freaking amazing does that sound? F’ yea!

So, what should you do to get ready for this program?

Well, prepare. This is not a beginner program. It is actually quite advanced. And Autumn herself has laid out a solid plan for those who want to start 80 Day Obsession in January

  1. One round of the 21 Day Fix
  2. One round of Chisel from Hammer and Chisel
  3. One round of 21 Day Fix Extreme

Having completed each of the workout programs above, I can safely say that the schedule (as outlined above) will not only give you the physical foundation but a nutrition foundation to tackle 80 Day Obsession in January. Again, I can’t go into too much detail regarding the “timed-nutrition” plan of 80 Day Obsession but know that if you have a handle on the Portion Fix system, you will transition easily into the timed-nutrition meal plan. In fact, you will likely enjoy it even more!

My 80 Day Obsession Phase 1 Recap

The last month flew by. When I started this program on July 31st, I was expecting time to literally stand still. I guess starting something new always gives you a severe case of anxiety. And the fact that the program targets the BOOTY I was scared to be honest. I do not like working out my butt and legs. I never have.

What if I hated it? What if I felt like quitting? What if… I seriously, thought all these things. You likely will too. But know that those fears quickly went away after just Day 1 of the program. After just Phase 1, I am totally and completely OBSESSED. Danny is too!

I lost 11 pounds and 9 inches, 4.5 inches coming off my waist alone! And my butt, well it’s starting to take shape. Bring on that booty pencil test!

On a more serious note, let me answer one of the questions that I keep getting…

Are the workouts really all different?

Yes and no. Yes, there is a newly filmed workout each day. That is the coolest thing ever and has never been done before by Beachbody. So, when this program releases day-by-day on Beachbody on Demand January through March, 2018, you will never see the same workout twice.

With that said, the weight lifting moves for each workout remain the same each Phase (well at least from what I’ve experience in Phase 1), what changes are the rep sequences.

For example, in the first week you will do 10 exercises for 15 reps each and then repeat them all for 2 rounds. The following week you will do 10 exercises for 10 reps each and then repeat them all for 3 rounds. Hopefully that makes sense!

The Cardio Core and Cardio Flow workouts are the same each week with variances in timing.

For me, what was incredible to experience was the increase in strength. During week 1, I was lifting what I would consider medium weight, and by Week 4, I was lifting HEAVY. Well, heavy for me at least. I definitely hadn’t pushed myself that hard in a long time!


Equipment needed for 80 Day Obsession Phase 1

*These are the weight sizes I used, but the weights you use might be much different! For example, Danny is using weights that are much heavier! But this should give you an idea of how wide of a range of weight sizes you’ll need. You’re not going to be able to get away with just 2 sizes like you might have done with programs like 21 Day Fix!

I’ll also say that it’s useful to have a set of Bowflex weights for this program so that you have a wide variety to chose from. Not necessary, but very useful.

Take note: Some of our loops POPPED during the Phase 1 workouts and we had to quickly replace them by ordering more on Amazon Prime. I know Beachbody will be selling loops for the program, so you may want to pick up a few extra sets for your journey. (Hopefully they’ll be a little better quality!) Better safe than sorry though! You will be using them at least 3 times per week.

On the nutrition side, I decided to increase my calorie intake during Week 3 and begin eating from Bracket C. In fact, most Coaches in the Test Group went up a bracket (some two) during Phase 1, proving that you have to eat more to lose more. If you can grasp that concept with this program, you will definitely crush it. There is no way you can get through these tough workouts without the proper nutrition.

And what’s even cooler, when I switched plans and started eating more I saw the MOST physical changes in my body. Not only did I drop a few more pounds but my muscles started to show more!


What Else Can I Tell You?

I know it’s easy to just want to know FACTS about the program. But here’s the thing, there is so much more to it and you will never understand what I mean fully until you are IN it. The mental breakthroughs I have experienced are powerful.

For so long, I had convinced myself that I was STUCK in my body that I didn’t necessarily hate but wasn’t 100% proud of. I used to be an athlete and when I started Beachbody I was ripped! I yearned for that feeling again but the excuses overcame my desire to succeed and put the work in… 

Until this program. I am free. It has taught me that anyone can CHANGE. You just have to be willing to fight. You have to be willing to think differently about workouts and nutrition. You have to be willing to prepare. You have to be willing to show up. Each day.

And how about Phase 2?

I am welcoming Phase 2 in a brand new body that is undergoing a complete overhaul. In Phase 2, we can expect harder, more compound movements and a nice little surprise in the nutrition plan that we cannot yet discuss. But we are STOKED.

The transformation photos coming out of the Coach Test Group are jaw-dropping. We aren’t just losing weight, we are building incredibly strong bodies! And well, we have truly become a FitFam. I can’t wait to continue taking you on this wild ride!
