Everything I Can Tell You About 80 Day Obsession

January 20, 2018

Before 80 Day Obsession was announced, Autumn Calabrese (creator of 21 Day Fix) hinted to me that a new project was in the works and told me to expect an email soon. Always humbled by any opportunity presented to me by Beachbody, I was giddy with excitement. I knew something BIG was coming for sure, but I had no idea that it would be 80 Day Obsession!

My First Experience with Autumn

In 2013, I was selected to be a part of the 21 Day Fix Coach Test Group and it changed my life.

Autumn was brand new to Beachbody and when she spoke about the containers, the workouts, the change that could be made in 21 days, I leaned into my husband, Danny, and said “I NEED THIS.” A few days later, I had been selected for the test group and I said goodbye to the old me.

In 21 days, I lost 12 pounds and 5 inches. I didn’t even realize that I had 12 pounds to lose! More importantly, I learned how to eat, what to eat, and how much to each. I also loved the workouts, and well, the #girlcrush on Autumn began. HA! Not only because she is absolutely gorgeous and down to earth, but she understands how to get REAL results the right way. And I realized that my body simply responds well to her training style.

Fast forward to just 4 weeks before starting 80 Day Obsession…

I was in a precarious position with my body. Despite working out harder than ever with various of our programs, newly acquired Peloton and attending a weekly SoulCycle class (I love Spinning!), I wasn’t seeing much in terms of results. And in this climate that we are in where fad diets and crazy meal plans are popping up left and right, I began researching ways to lose weight quick.

GASP! The health and fitness coach was looking outside of what she KNEW worked?! What I failed to do is accept responsibility by looking in the mirror for the reason I wasn’t getting results. It wasn’t the programs or our nutrition plans, it was ME. Guilty as charged.

Enter 80 Day Obsession

I finally got that email that Autumn said to expect, my husband, Danny, and I were asked to be a part of exclusive coach Test Group for a brand new program—80 Day Obsession.

And get this, not only were we some of the first to try the program, but this was more than just a “test group,” we were actually providing feedback to the production crew and Autumn Calabrese herself!

80 Days. Holy shit you guys. How was I going to do this? It was certainly more than a quick fix, it was certainly more than the 21 Day Fix. No cocktails on my BIRTHDAY? I was curious whether I was being punished or blessed by the Universe. HA!

80 day obsession results weight loss

Blessed it is. Completely blessed. When the meal plan and equipment arrived, I glanced at our welcome letter, and dove in mentally first. Since Danny was selected for the Test Group as well, we decided as a couple that we would: 1. Make each other proud; and 2. Get the BEST results as a couple. I needed him and he needed me. This would be our first Beachbody program we would complete together, and while Danny has always been in shape, he had never committed to a meal plan. That meant I would have to cook for the both of us. Shit.

What Is 80 Day Obsession?

Only available on Beachbody On Demand, 80 Day Obsession is Beachbody’s newest program with Super Trainer Autumn Calabrese. This is a 13-week long program (Autumn’s longest program yet) that focuses building a booty of your dreams and burning fat to reveal those abs you never thought you could achieve.

80 Day Obsession Test Group

Required equipment for 80 Day Obsession

You can purchase these individually if you already have most of the equipment, or there are a variety of Challenge Packs available at discounted prices! When you fill our the form below I’ll help you choose the right one.

*I use 8 pounds all the way to 45 pounds, but yours might be much different! For example, Danny is using much heavier weights. But this show give you an idea of how wide of a range of weight sizes you’ll need. The Bowflex weights have come in handy for sure!

Also, a quick note on the loops… we’ve had a couple of our loops POP during workouts, so you may want to buy extra just in case! Currently the loops are only available in an 80 Day Obsession Challenge Pack from Beachbody, but they should be for sale individually soon.

How are the workouts?

The workouts are TOUGH—definitely not a beginner program—you’ll need some sort of fitness base before starting. (I’ve shared Autumns suggested prep schedule near the bottom of this blog!)

A major focus each day is the BOOTY! I have never been fond of butt and leg work. So, clearly, I had to get over that mental block to complete this program. Holy soreness, but SO worth it!

Most of the moves are brand new and have never been done on a Beachbody program before. So many compound movements, ex. Half Turkish Get Up with a Half Twist Push Up. They might be a little tricky to master at first, but you’ll getting through them like a pro in no time!

And a question I’ve gotten is: “Are all the workouts really ALL different?!”

Yes and no… there IS a new workout filmed each day, so in that respect, yes! But many of the strength workouts contain the same weight lifting moves, what will change is the reps and number of sets. The Cardio Core and Cardio Flow workouts work the same way, similar workouts with variations in timing.

80 day obsession booty glutes results

You feel like you have your own personal trainer!

Honestly, it feels as if you are working out in a group class with a world-class fitness trainer. Autumn is on point with her cueing, her explanation of the moves, and her motivation!

Each month progressively gets tougher as you get stronger—you’re not doing the same workouts 7 days/week on repeat. Autumn progresses you through the program as if she were personally working with you through those 80 days… just like she would if you hired her as a personal trainer.

Seriously, it’s like you’re getting over $11,000 worth of personal training from Autumn for just $99 through Beachbody On Demand!

MEAL PLAN

Premise of the plan is TIMED-NUTRITION.

The Portion Fix containers play a significant role, just like 21 Day Fix, but the meal plan will specify AT WHAT TIME you will eat specific containers. No more guessing about what foods you should eat pre- and post-workout and how long before/after. It will all be laid out for amazing results! Autumn makes every part of this nutrition plan EASY to follow.

You’ll have SIX calorie brackets to choose from (Plan A-F), you’ll calculate your bracket and find your meal plan using your current weight and whether you want to lose weight or maintain. No matter which bracket you fall into your meal plan will look pretty similar (just with more or less containers):

  1. Pre-Workout Meal
  2. Post-Workout Meal
  3. Meal Option 1
  4. Meal Option 2
  5. Meal Option 3

Each meal is laid out showing you how many servings of each food group you should eat AND when you should eat them. The time you eat will all revolve around when you plan to workout, so keeping a consistent workout schedule is really helpful when it comes to meal prep.

Plus, we get these magical “refeed” days, which you are going to LOVE. These are days you get to indulge in foods like burgers and pasta… basically the “bad carbs” we’ve been avoiding!

But I have news, unlike 21 Day Fix, alcohol is NOT allowed!

My experience with the 80 Day Obsession nutrition plan.

After completing our calorie/weight calculations, I fell into Plan B and Danny fell into Plan F. I created our Week 1 plans and got to shopping and prepping. Honestly, I hadn’t done this in a really long time and I finally felt in control again—I love that feeling! And let me tell you, it’s A LOT of food.

I decided to increase my calorie intake during Week 3 and begin eating from Bracket C. In fact, most Coaches in the Test Group went up a bracket (some two) during Phase 1, proving that you have to eat more to lose more. If you can grasp that concept with this program, you will definitely crush it.

Performance Line

We are BOTH using the Performance Line to boost our results. Learn more about those here. This was the first time I’ve committed to them full-throttle. Our pre-workout, Energize, is consumed 30 minutes prior to our workout, Recover is consumed 10 minutes after our sweat sesh, and then Recharge right before bed. With 100% conviction, they have helped tons in this process and curbing soreness and the sweet tooth at night. I am a believer—they’re worth every cent!

COACH TEST GROUP

Before Autumn was announced to the group as the Super Trainer and program details divulged, one Coach described what was happening as a “weird social experiment.” One thing I learned very quickly, we are ALL so different and it is important not to be judgmental of others. Everyone has a different path. Some struggle a lot, some a little, and some not at all.

The conversation about living an 80/20 lifestyle and drinking alcohol became an early focus. WHY? Because we were ALL about to embark on a journey of no cheats and no drinks for 80 days. I will be 100% honest—this was giving me a lot of anxiety. Our lifestyle has always been one of balance and FUN. When we get together we like to have drinks with friends and I love a glass of Pinot while cooking dinner. It is a THING. So yeah, hard for me. But those first few days in the group made me realize, I was not alone in those mental battles. I was not alone at all.

And can I just say that during the Test Group we are working out with Autumn LIVE each day? It’s absolutely crazy but at 12:30 PM EST sharp, we are given a link to start a live stream of Autumn on the set with her crew as they film each workout daily. You guys, this has never been done before. No scripts, no do-over, no stopping. Both Autumn, her crew in the LA set, and we have to forge through NO MATTER WHAT. Insane, right?

Some will say you don’t need a “group” to be successful in a health and fitness journey, and for some, that may be true. For me, this group is  my lifeline. I am not just the Coach anymore, I am the Challenger.

I was helping construct this program and build the excitement for its launch in January. So yea, I treated it like a JOB.

What’s Next?

It’s time for you to PREPARE for 80 Day Obsession!

This is NOT a beginner program by any means, but that doesn’t mean that you’ll have to sit this one out if you feel like you’re not prepared. Not at all! What it means is that you need to start preparing.

Best workouts to prepare for 80 Day Obsession:
  1. One round of the 21 Day Fix
  2. One round of Chisel from Hammer and Chisel
  3. One round of 21 Day Fix Extreme

This is the suggestion that Autumn made, and having done each of these myself, I can safely say that the schedule above will definitely give you the foundation you need.

There is also a “sneak peek” program available on Beachbody On Demand called A Little Obsessed. This is basically a 5-day, slightly toned-down version of 80 Day Obsession—an AWESOME way to give you a taste of the program before fully committing yourself!

Here’s a peek at Danny and I’s 80-day results. See more in my final 80 Day Obsession update or click here to see ALL my blog updates on 80 Day Obsession.

And I was actually crazy enough to complete a SECOND round of the program! (Yes, I loved it that much!) You can check out those results here along with reviews from others!

Be a Part of MY Test Group!

There has been SO much interest in this program that I’m hosting new 80 Day Obsession groups starting each month—and they’re filling up fast.

Started the program yesterday and I really loved the first workout! I am used to doing more of the Shaun T programs and am a little worried about only two cardio days in 80 day Obsession. I see how you have gotten amazing results. Am I overthinking cardio results??

You definitely don’t need additional cardio for this program. The workouts are tough enough!

I recently got a peloton that I love but am super interested in trying the obsession! Did you continue to use the peloton throughout the program? I don’t want to stop using it as I am paying for it as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hey Liz! I did stop using my Peloton while in the test group because with 80 Day Obsession you don’t need additional workouts! Let me know if you want more info (if you don’t already work with a Coach!).

Hey there! I’m starting week 3 of the 80 Day Obession and fall into the Plan A nutrition program. I know we aren’t suputo weigh in the first phase but I did this morning and am up 5 pounds! I did the a little obsessed week prior to the 80 day obession and have been pretty spot on with the food! No alcohol eating my allotted container combos and done each workout first thing in the am and meal prep for home and workdays! Also drinking 3 litters water a day! I was doing intermittent fasting and more of a high fat low carb diet with social drinking before this program and was maintaining my weight around 118-121 fluctuation. I do want to lose weight with this program and doing the supplements as well. I don’t have much to lose weight wise I’m more interested in losing inches and changing my body physically. I’m in a challenge group but everyone says don’t wright yourself and my measurements are the same too! Can you help me? Should I go up to Plan B or give my body more time to adjust to the program? I honestly haven’t workout for an hour in ages been on the beachbody 30 min bandwagon! So not sure what to do as o see others really dropping the weight but some have more to lose than me of course they lose faster. But I also do t want to be following the wrong nutrition either when I’m putting in hard work in with the workouts which on work days I go at 3 am! Help!

Hey! I definitely think you should consider bumping up to B or even C for the remainder of the program. I think your body is sending you a message that you need more food. If you want those gains – then eat up! For reference, Autumn eats out of Plan C.

I really like your review and can definitely see the results. Can you tell me why you chose to do your before and after pictures in two different parts of your home with different lighting? I like that you have the same clothes on in the before and after but lighting plays a big part of it.

    Reply
    • Kristina Delgado

We were living in my parents house when we started the program in July as our house was under construction. Trust me that lighting doesn’t make you lose 20 pounds and 14.5 inches. The results are clear as day!

How did you determine you need to up your calorie intake. I am in eating plan A and wondering if this is too low calorie for the kind of workouts we are doing. I’m 5’4 140lbs and trying to lose fat/get toned.

    Reply
    • Kristina Delgado

I am a big believer that Plan A is not sufficient food for this program given the intensity of the workouts and believe me they get harder! I went up for a few reasons but mainly because my metabolism was firing and I was getting tired, grumpy and hungry in B. I do not believe ANYONE should be hungry doing this program, and in fact, doing so, will backfire on you long-term. Do not be afraid to EAT! I lost the most weight in Phase 3, Plan C!

    Hi Kristina,

Did you ever come across, although we don’t count calories & use the containers instead to measure foods, that you went over your calorie goal intake? Is that normal? Eating carbs worries me because that’s what spiked my calorie count.

And on some days, I felt full, but haven’t eaten all my food- can I stop eating or must I eat everything?

Has anyone seen the same results with customers who may not be using supplements?

Thanks and I look forward to your feedback. 🙂

    Reply
    • Kristina Delgado

Hi Jessica! No, I strictly use the containers and strictly followed the timed-nutrition plan because Autumn and the Beachbody nutrition team are the experts! Carbs are not the enemy and necessary to get through these tough workout. Also, yes it is important to eat all the food of the plan you are following. All my customers and the initial test group used Shakeology and most (about 90%) are using Energize and Recover. They are amazing and serve an important purpose. Hope that helps!

Sorry for the late reply, Vickie! My answer would be another round of 80 Day Obsession — I’m on round 3 and the workouts have been challenging each time, and I’m still seeing major progress in my body! But any program will help you continue and maintain your progress, find one that YOU love and keep going!

To prepare for this plan should you do all three of the other workouts or just one such as the 21 day fix?

    Reply
    • Kristina Delgado

It really depends on your current fitness level! Some of my challengers have hopped right into 80 Day Obsession without completing all 3 programs. My suggestion would be to try A Little Obsessed and see how you feel. If it’s too much, complete 21 Day Fix first and go from there! I hope that helps.

Is it possible to move/swap containers from one meal to another on the same day? I noticed that many 80 Day approved meals on Fixate don’t fit perfectly into any one meal bracket for me (plan B). I assume that the workout block shouldn’t be messed with but was wondering about the other meals. Thanks!

    Reply
    • Kristina Delgado

Right, the workout blocks shouldn’t be messed with. As for the other meals, you can switch around the order in which you eat those meals, but all of those containers in each meal need to STAY TOGETHER! They’re created that way for a reason. Try modifying the Fixate recipes to fit your meal plan instead.

Congrats on the weight loss! I would highly recommend switching over to the 80 Day Obsession meal plan while you’re doing the program. The timed-nutrition plan is a HUGE part of the program and the results my challengers are seeing! It’s designed to give you the best results possible and fuel your body for the intense workouts.

Once you’ve completed the program, you can switch back to the WW plan if you’d like, but if you’re going to do 80 Day Obsession, GO ALL IN with the workouts and nutrition!

So i’m on day 3 of 80 day obsession. . I gag just to get the recover down, Will i get the same results if i don’t take the recover post workout?! Or can i just take a shot of the recover without the full 8 oz water?

    Reply
    • Kristina Delgado

Hi, Taylor! First, have you tried both chocolate and orange recover? Beachbody has a 100% satisfaction guarantee, they may be able to swap out the flavor for you when you contact customer service. Some people like one flavor but not the other!

You’ll still see great results without it — the workouts will just feel more difficult without Recover as your muscles will be more sore.

Hey! Sorry for the late response, hopefully you’ve figured it out. There are plenty of examples in the meal plan. As long as you eat your workout block meals at the right time, and eat all your other meals every 2-3hrs you’ll be good to go. There are a few timing examples in the 80DO guide!

    Hi there,
I am new to the 80 DO. I just ordered my stuff and now waiting for it. I will start it next week. I am a little confused about the time to exercise and meals. I am gone from 7 am until 7:30 pm I was planning on working out in the morning 5-6 I am already waking up an hour earlier so I can get the exercises done. However, I’m not going to wake up at 4 to eat breakfast That’s just way to early. Also I go to the gym every morning to kill time before I have to work. Will I still be aloud to go tl the gym? I’m so confused. I do have a coach and she said to get an egg and fruit before my work. Will that be ok? (I fall in plan A)

    Reply
    • Kristina Delgado

Hey Staci! It’s encouraged that you don’t do any other workouts during 80 Day Obsession — your muscles will be doing a LOT of work already and you want to be able to push through all your workouts and feel great! Instead of waking up at 4am, what if you did your 80DO workout at the gym? I know plenty of people that stream their workouts at the gym to they can use the equipment there. And you should be eating a protein, carb and veggie before your workout, then a protein, carb, veggie and fruit after!

Hey! This was very helpful but I’m curious if only doing 2 days of cardio a week will help me lose enough weight. I had my second baby 6 months ago and I need to lose another 25 still and I was considering doing this workout. I just don’t know if it will be enough to help me lose the weight.

    • Kristina Delgado

Hey, Jenna! Congrats on the new baby! Trust me, once you get a couple of weeks into the program the fear of not doing enough cardio will disappear. Even on the non-cardio days your heart rate will be up and you’ll be burning plenty of calories! Give it a try, following the workout schedule and meal plan (this is KEY) and the weight will come off.

Hi Kristina! I really just want to say how much I enjoy following your blog. I do have a coach already but if I didn’t I certainly would have picked you out of the blue. I just finished Day 40 of 80 DO and I am LOVING it!! I am already trying to figure out my game plan for when it is over. I am thrilled that I am only 1/2 way through because I am already excited about my results and CAN NOT wait to see what the end has in store for me. I love the cast and the workouts and also have a little bit of a girl-crush on Autumn also! lol She is pretty incredible. ABSOLUTELY agree with you that additional cardio is not needed in this program. I burn more calories during these workouts than I ever did jogging/running and they are so much more enjoyable; AND they are building muscle so that I can burn more calories when not working out. If you can’t tell, I am super excited about this program. One might be able to say I am OBSESSED! 🙂 Please keep up the posts! You are certainly an inspiration!!
