80 Day Obsession Review Week 3: Let There Be Temptation!

August 23, 2017

Ahhhhhh, Week 3. If this was the 21 Day Fix, Shift Shop or Ultimate Reset, you’d be staring at the finish line. You’d be staring at that glass of wine and cheat meal. You’d be staring at FREEDOM. Right?

Wrong. That is definitely the wrong way to look at this. Trust me, because that’s what I did. Well, let’s be honest—that’s what I did until I was selected for the 80 Day Obsession Test Group. It was a cycle of 21 days on the wagon and then, well, a not so pretty trip and fall off the wagon that would lead me right back to where I started. For lack of a better term, a half-assed commitment that would prevent me from breaking any weight-loss plateaus.

What is cool about this experience thus far, at least for me, is that I am not feeling that desperation to finish like past experiences. I distinctly remember that last week of the 21 Day Fix Test Group felt like an eternity. It was Doubles Week and I also completed the 3 Day Fix for the last three days of the program. On top of all of that, I was prepping for a big wrongful death trial and in marathon trial depositions and a late meditation that same week. There were donuts and fast food at every turn and let’s be real—I would have killed for a glass of wine or rum and Coke during that very stressful time. But I stuck to it because I committed to it. 100% I was not going to crumble. I didn’t come this far to only come this far, right?!

At the same token, I still wanted my freedom back. I was focusing so much on what was being taken from me that I failed to realize what I was receiving by making this commitment. I look back at my before and after pictures from that time and think to myself that had I made a slight mental shift in my thinking, I would have kept those results for a much longer time (if not forever).

What’s Different About 80 Day Obsession?

Well, it’s 80 days! And, to top things off, I have made that mental shift. I am not desperate to finish, desperate for that cheat meal, or even desperate for that drink. I am obsessed with getting results and obsessed with being in control of myself!

To test that resolve, I decided it would be a good idea to head to our Key Largo home for the last week before school starts. I guess you can say that I am certifiably insane. The Keys is my happy place. It is OUR happy place. It is also where I traditionally make sure to workout but I’ll eat and drink to my heart’s content. While an amazing place for your heart, it is not so amazing for your waistline.

But this time I’m ALL IN.

Testing my obsession.

So I made sure to pack up our fridge, Shakeology, Beachbody Performance Line supplements, weights, loops, and sliders. We arrived late at night and I went grocery shopping. Not the best idea since I was freaking starving but I got it done so that our first full day was smooth sailing.

staying healthy on vacation

Day 1:

We decided to plan our day around our Cardio Core workout at 12:30 PM.

I woke up had my coffee and cooked us our traditional breakfast. Then I made a crap ton of chicken fajitas for lunch (Danny technically eats 4 full meals each day plus Shakeology) so I have to make tons of protein and veggies. After our workout (which we crushed BTW) and by 2:00 PM, we jumped on the boat and headed to Nest Key. Twenty-five LaCroix’s later, we can say we had “sober” fun. Quite a different experience being out there without our Yeti’s filled with our cocktails but we are learning to adjust. And that we did. That night, we ventured to Snook’s Bayside Grill, and while I almost passed out because they took forever to bring our meals, I survived and stayed on plan. We watched an incredible sunset too.

Day 2:

Parasailing and feeding the tarpon at Robbie’s was on the agenda so our workout would have to wait.

On this plan (while we are still tight-lipped on what “timed-nutrition” really entails) you have to adjust all of your meals if your workout time changes.

No problem for this crew! The only interesting thing that happened was eating lunch at Lazy Days and not having an appropriate “yellow” to consume. But I remembered a post by Autumn in our group of her having french fries with her son. So I opted for sweet potato fries. Only a few of course. After lunch, the kids went to a friends house for pool fun and Danny and I headed home for our AAA workout by the ocean. Today was AH-MAZING.

Day 3:

Back to regularly scheduled programming.

Breakfast and Fixate chili for lunch before our workout at 12:30 PM. Leg Day is slowly growing on me for sure. I used to HATE working out my legs but seeing the changes in my lower body in just 3 weeks has me pushing for more. We also did something different, we put our Shakeology in Thermos and took it with us on the boat. Much to my surprise, they stayed cold and delicious! After a few hours at Nest Key with friends, we headed back for dinner at Sundowners. They had incredible options for us (including lobster and wild rice) so we left really happy!

Oh, and drinking TEA  at night is becoming a thing, but don’t tell anyone. Shhhhhhh!

Day 4:

Satur-YAY! We get to workout early so we had breakfast and pushed play at 9:30 AM! Cardio Flow is my least favorite of our weekly workouts but it’s short and to the point. We prepped a delicious taco lunch and headed out for a fun day at Mosquito Banks. A funky name because it is a sandbar in the middle of the ocean with no mosquitos. HA! Either way, it was a great day and we #NailedIT when it came to timing and our nutrition. We ended the night binge-watching Atypical and called it a night!

Day 5:

We headed home to prep of the start of the new school year. Crazy how fast summer came and went. But we came home with our hearts filled with memories.

I passed my test.

I wanted to challenge myself in an uncomfortable environment with temptation all around. And I did it. You see, this isn’t 21 Days. It’s 80 Days. In a few weeks, it’s my 37th Birthday. And it will be right smack in the middle of this adventure. I want to know how strong-willed I am to be faced with yummy food and drinks and be able to say NO. But not just NO. More like, I don’t need it.

Don’t think I am going all soft on ya—this isn’t the end to margarita drinking Delgado, but this is the end of someone not in control of her body.

I feel empowered. And truthfully, all I did was make a decision to see this differently than before. To see this as a GIFT and not a curse. To see food as fuel for my workouts and not fuel for my soul. I am changing folks! And sure, I know that we still have a ton of weeks left in this process but I am truthfully seeing the results on both the inside and out. I am not on a time crunch to pop some abs for an after picture. I am on a marathon called LIFE to live strong, healthy and happy for those that matter all around me.

Week 3 DONE.

Oh, and The Results from Week 3?

Progress is HAPPENING! While changes aren’t happening as fast as, day 21 Day Fix, it’s happening. I just have to remind myself of what was said last week“The longer the program, the more sustainable the results.”

Check out my before and afters from week 1 vs. week 3 of 80 Day Obsession. And remember, this is after 5 days of VACATION!
